Getting Oracle 10g

Go to http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html, and follow the prompts. You'll need to create an account to get the files. For home use you are likely to only need the standard version of Oracle and not the Enterprise version, unless there are enterprise features you specifically want. Eventually, you will be able to download the following file:

  $ cksum ship.db.cpio.gz
  306399691 611574473 ship.db.cpio.gz

Once it's finished downloading, log in as root, decompress and extract the file to end up with a directory called Disk1.

  # xhost +
  # su
  # cd /tmp
  # gunzip ship.db.cpio.gz
  # cpio -idmv < ship.db.cpio
